Improving Life, One Breath at a Time

Welcome to Matthew Scudder’s Big Ride Pacific Coast 2007!

What’s it all about?

  • Bicycle ride from Seattle to San Fransisco
  • 1,000 miles in 15 days (September 9th to September 24th)
  • Average 77 miles/day
  • Total of 40 cyclists, each fundraising at least $2,000 for the American Lung Association
  • More details available at http://www.bigride.org, also go to the route map.

Have I lost my mind?
I probably have. Ever since I bought my Trek 770 bicycle from Tim McParland in 1990, I have dreamed of a cross country trip. Those of you that are familiar with my visual handicap from my 1988 stroke, know how much this means to me. Throughout my education and professional career I have been blessed by some wonderful mentors, and  I feel compelled to give back to our society. The Lung Association is a fantastic charity, fighting lung disease, supporting smoking cessation and education, proving asthma camps for children, and lobbying for clean air legislation. Go to the ALAW web site for more information on Lung Association programs.

What can you do?
Support me by making a donation. Go to the Donations page or contact me at scudmatt@inwave.com or call me at (815) 535-6566 if you have any questions. I contribute most of the actual cost of the ride to the Lung Association myself, so you know your contributions go directly to the Lung Association.

What’s in it for you?
Satisfaction in knowing you’re helping a great cause. Joining me vicariously for an adventure of a lifetime. Recognition for supporting me and the Lung Association. I really appreciate your help and so do all of us who benefit from the work of the Lung Association. Thanks.

How can you follow the Big Ride?
There will be a website which you can access to see a journal that I/we will be keeping on the ride. I’ll have my digital camera and be able to post about once a week. Also, look for a link to a website which will show our position as we go across the country. Follow us as we cycle across this great country and listen to our daily thoughts and position.
